These adorable geckos were previously thought to be extinct untill they were re-discovered in 1994.

They were first discribed in 1866 with the name Correlophus ciliatus by a French zoologist, Alphone Guichenot. They have now been renamed Rhacodactylus ciliatus. The word Rhacodactylus is Greek: Rhakos,  meaning "spine" and Dactylus  meaning "finger". The word ciliatus is Latin: Cilia  meaning "fringe" or "eyelash"

Basic Diet

The diet of the Crested Gecko can consist of both fruit and insects. The Crested Gecko can be fed crickets, Crested Gecko Diet (mrp), and some non citrus fruits and berries such as strawberrys, mango, banana and melons are usually accepted. When feeding CGD (mrp) Crested Geckos do not need any other supplement to their diet and can be fed this exclusively. I personally feed my Geckos CGD (mrp) 3-4 nights out of the week and crickets once a week.

Crickets can carry various parasites and Nematodes. This means that when you feed crickets you should either be doing routine fecal exams (which can be done by yourself if you have an appropriate microscope) or giving your geckos anti-parasitic medication bi- yearly or yearly as a preventative treatment.

These geckos can be very long lived.
There is not a lot of accurate data on the life span  of these geckos right now.  But it is not unreasonable to say they can easily live 15–20 years.

These Geckos have been gaining incredible popularity in recent years and are rivaling the leopard gecko right now.

These Geckos do well in temperatures ranging from
60 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
Humidity levels of  60%-80% percent.
A Thermometer and Hygrometer are
necessary. You may need a heat lamp/mat and or air conditioner if your where you live does not stay within the appropriate temperatures.
Humidity levels can be achived by misting the cage once to twice daily.
